Hola a todos from Ecuador!

Panecillo 6-2-17
Hola Everyone! I can’t believe its already been a week here in Ecuador! Although at times it seems like i’ve been here much longer, the week has definitely just flown by. And I can honestly say, i’ve loved every minute of it! I’m so blessed to be staying with one of my best friends, and her wonderful family. They’ve completely welcomed me with open arms and treated me like one of their own. I’m not quite sure what I would do here in Ecuador without them!

Three PDV Interns with our Hit Squad family member! 5-3-17

This past week has been filled with a little bit of everything I think. From working with the Food Distribution Program, to reorganizing classrooms, to doing home visits for future hit squad projects, to learning how to get around by the Quito bus system. Even though I’ve only been here for such a short time, this week has already been so rewarding. If I had to pick my top favorite moments this week, number 1 would be seeing this little girl who was in my VBS group last year. I think of all the little ones I was blessed to care for last year, she was the ‘one’. The one I kept thinking about months down the road, the one I kept photos of on my phone to help me remember what it was like to serve at PDV, and the one who showed me that even with a huge language gap relationships are still possible.

Little ones! 5-31-17

It was this past Wednesday that I saw her again, I actually didn’t know I’d spent most of the day taking care of her younger sister until she showed up. I was outside on the playground with her sister when she came over to see what we were doing, she took a second or two to look at me before she gave me the the BIGGEST hug ever! I can’t even tell you all how glad I was to see that little girl, to know that she remembered me, and to know that even though a year had gone by she still wanted to be right next to me. If you knew this little girl last year, her making the first move towards a hug would surprise you. She was such a timid and shy little one, hardly speaking a few words during the week. But being able to see her again, and see the change in her was so special. I’ll always treasure these memories!

Seeing the beauty of Ecuador was probably my second favorite thing. There were so many breathtaking moments this week its hard to even pick my top favorite places. I don’t know if I’ve ever been to another place that makes me feel so free, and so close to God. His creation is truly wonderful! Standing at the top of Panecillo was just stunning! Being able to look out and see the whole city was something truly incredible.

Blessings!

  1. Amazing post Olivia! It's so amazing to see your passion and God's work unfolding through you. You are growing up. Its sooner than I'd like to admit it. But this is what it looks like... (tear) But as you grow physically and spiritually, you are blessing so many people, young and old, who join you along that path. Love you sis. Keep up the good work - His work.
